DEWORMING PROGRAM FOR AN ADULT HORSE
APPROXIMATE DATES:
1 January Quest Plus
1 April Ivermectin liquid
(This is also the time of year you need to update vaccines: EWT, Flu, Rhino, West Nile, Rabies, as well as a general physical, teeth floated and have a Coggins done)
1 June Strongid/pyrantel
30 September Ivermectin paste
30 November 2x Strongid, 1x Combot
(We suggest to give this via stomach tube, as the Combot is extremely irritating to the oral cavity. This is also a good time to update the vaccinations if not done earlier in the fall.)
*** Benzimidazole type pastes include: Fenbendazole, Oxibendazole, etc. These drugs, members of the benzimidazole chemical group, should be rotated among themselves. Once per year deworming with a Panacur Power Pack is also advisable, to ensure removal of cyathostomes (small strongyles). These products should also be purchased from a veterinarian to ensure adequate quality.
